LeAndra Crystal, is a Fisk University graduate, local artist, certified Therapeutic Art Life Coach and President of the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Art League. As the president of an artist-run, non-profit art organization founded in Nashville in 1954 with the goal to create opportunities for visual artists, it has been her mission to create diverse and equitable opportunities for artists and patrons alike. In her efforts, LeAndra has created connections with institutions like Tennessee State University, Fisk University, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and organizations such as Creative Girls Rock, Casa Azafran and the North Nashville Arts Coalition.
Inspired by life, love, culture, the spiritual, and experience; LeAndra Crystal enjoys experimenting with different mediums and creating from her heart. LeAndra has experience and expertise in a wide variety of mediums and techniques. She has worked with everything from traditional 2-D media such as acrylic and oil painting, charcoal, inks, and mixed media to set building & design, metal & wood working, clay, glass, resin and murals.
Most recently, she has been combining elements for her work to create new multi- & inter- disciplinary large scale works. Examples of this can be found in her use of line work depicting native symbols and patterns, interwoven fabrics and alcohol inks used on transparent glass that provide the look and feel of stained glass.
As a Therapeutic Art Coach, LeAndra Crystal also brings innovative services to corporate teams, university students, primary schools and her local community. Through these efforts she has led both collaborative and individualized projects with Big Love Smokes,Belmont University, Creative Girls Rock and upcoming events with the North Nashville Arts Coalition, that range from canvas painting to mural work.
Thoughts on the creative process:
“There are times that I create to tell a story. There are times that I created to convey a message. There are times that I create to express a feeling. There are times that I create for healing. Then, there are times that I create… simply to create, to be free. This is me. This is who I AM as an Artist. I don’t fit in a box.”
LeAndra Crystal has work that can be seen in various locations across the U.S. and Nashville. To see more visit her gallery site and etsy shop.
